A
Review of iPower Web Hosting Service

When I
was first presented with the information about
iPower's hosting packages, I was immediately drawn to
them...but only from a financial standpoint. I knew
that changing hosting companies could potentially
mean saving a lot of money each month on my hosting
fees and I found that quite attractive. It was enough
for me to want to make the change right then and
there. On the other hand, once I considered all that
would be involved in the actual change-over process,
I had a completely different attitude. The tasks
involved--both prior and immediately after the
change, could prove overwhelming and too intense for
my feeble, "non-technical" mind.
I decided to do a comparison of benefits and
options that both my current hosting company and
iPower offered before making such a major decision.
After a careful side-by-side comparison, it was
obvious that iPower was the better choice. It was
beginning to look like I needed to make the switch.
Several "how-to" questions began plaguing my brain. I
knew next to nothing about "registrars", "domain
locking"-blah, blah, blah! Plus, I make my living
based on my website being up and running smoothly
24-7. If something were to go wrong in the changeover
process, it could be costly both in terms of money
AND time.
Needless to say, one of my main concerns was tech
support—or should I say "lack of support" with
technical issues. Let's face it: Good customer
support is a lost art in today's world, so I'm to the
point of almost expecting the worst anytime I need to
call a company for help these days. My current
hosting company had always been very reliable in
answering my emails in a timely manner when it came
to fixing problems that arose, (which was one of the
main reasons I had stayed with them for so many
years), so I had come to rely on them for assistance
at the drop of a hat. I decided to put iPower to the
test.
I phoned iPower's support department, (phone
support had never be available with my current host)
and asked a few pertinent questions: how much web
site down time would I experience, how long it would
take to change my domain over to their servers, would
any emails possibly be lost, etc. I was very
impressed with the answers I was given, not to
mention the fact that the support representative used
terms that I could actually understand! I
subsequently made the decision to switch hosting
companies.
It became my constant hope and prayer that
everything would go smoothly. Even if iPower did pass
my stringent "support test", I was still uneasy about
the actual moving of data from one host to another. I
started making backup copies of every web page,
database and email account, just in case. I was more
than a little nervous.
But when I started the process of switching to
iPower, they handled all the technical details of
pointing my domain to their servers and getting me up
and running in no time. I simply handled the copying
and moving of my own files from the old host to
iPower's servers. I also had made the decision to
move my domain registration to iPower from its
current location---another money-saving
decision!---which they walked me right through.
iPower made the whole process almost pain-free. They
even have online video guides and easy-to-understand
help pages to assist you in getting your new site up
and running as quickly as possible.
I've contacted support a few times with some
miscellaneous questions and have had the same great
service as the first time I called before I became a
customer. This shows me that the great service I
received prior to switching was not just a sales
pitch. Of course there was a lot of new things for me
to learn with iPower’s hosting process and
website controls (which are great!) but, in my humble
opinion, it has well been worth the effort.
